Introducing: WhatYouWaitingFor

WhatYouWaitingFor is a likeable and progressive gelding who has been a model of consistency, finishing in the first three in all of his starts over hurdles. By Axxos and out of Miss Philippa, he has already shown himself to be a tough and genuine performer who continues to give his owners plenty to enjoy.

Highflyer Bloodstock purchased him at the Goffs UK October Sale for £24,000, and Charlie has been delighted with the purchase.

WhatYouWaitingFor took well to hurdling, showing a willing attitude to record his first success at Newton Abbot. Travelling strongly throughout, he knuckled down well after the last to assert on the run-in, and backed that up with a series of consistent performances, never finishing outside the first three over obstacles.

He has since begun his transition to chasing, making an encouraging debut over fences at Doncaster where he finished second to a highly regarded rival. He built on that effort with another strong performance at Chepstow on just his second start over fences, finishing third in a competitive contest. Travelling prominently and jumping well on the whole, he moved into contention turning for home before a mistake at a crucial stage checked his momentum. Despite that, he stayed on gamely to the line, shaping as though he would have gone close with a cleaner round.

His sire, Axxos, was a talented middle-distance performer and has produced a number of high-class jumpers, including the prolific Earlofthecotswolds. His dam, Miss Philippa, is from a strong National Hunt family featuring several Black Type performers, and is by Mahler, one of the most influential National Hunt sires of recent years.

Charlie has reported, “He looks really well!”. Adding "I couldn't be happier with what I've seen so far."

WhatYouWaitingFor is an athletic, straightforward gelding who is continuing to learn with each start over fences. He has taken well to chasing, travelling strongly in his races and jumping with increasing fluency. With further experience, he looks well placed to build on his promising start in this sphere, and it should not be long before he is rewarded with a win over fences.

It’s a great time to get involved with this exciting prospect and an even better time to join the mission to beat prostate cancer.

Introducing: Gerald's Charity Syndicate

Gerald Cooper, 77, the much-loved farmhand from popular television documentary Clarkson’s Farm, brings you Gerald’s Charity Syndicate - a syndicate designed to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Gerald received a heartfelt outpouring of support from fans after revealing his prostate cancer diagnosis on the show. He said: “My cancer diagnosis was bewildering, but I received tremendous support from family, friends, and Prostate Cancer UK, which was also a lifeline. Now cancer-free, I wanted to do something joyful for a good cause.”

Each share in WhatYouWaitingFor will include a £5 donation to Prostate Cancer UK in addition to the donation of 25% of Old Gold Racing and Gerald’s management fees.

Once the syndicate is filled, we will have raised £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK, and hopefully raised a lot of awareness in the process!

Furthermore, all Old Gold Racing owners will have the chance to donate their prize money to Prostate Cancer UK via a button in their MyStables app.

About Prostate Cancer UK: Prostate Cancer UK gives every man the power to navigate prostate cancer.

They support dads, brothers, partners and friends by raising awareness, funding life changing research, campaigning for change and providing much needed support.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer, but all too often they find out by complete chance, too late.

It’s therefore important to help fund the research that will improve the odds of detecting prostate cancer earlier and stop men dying too soon.

To give Gerald the last word: “Let’s strive for a world where no man dies from prostate cancer”.

About The Trainer

Charlie trains at Hull Farm, on the outskirts of Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, where he lives with his wife Sophie and their three children. In 2001 he became Assistant Trainer to Nicky Henderson. Much of his experience came from his time here; he looked after the Grade 1 winners Bacchanal, Marlborough and Trabolgan. Three years later, he won the Alex Scott Memorial Fund Assistant Trainer’s Scholarship and moved to the US, to work for flat trainer Todd Pletcher.

Charlie took out his own licence in 2006 and has since trained over 700 winners and accumulated over £4,000,000 in prize money. Prolific wins include The Becher Chase at Aintree and The Grade 1 Virgin Bet Mare’s Chase at Exeter with Snow Leopardess. Charlie has many long standing owners and has trained winners for some of the biggest names in the National Hunt world including The Queen, JP McManus, The Brooks Family and Alan Halsall.

Share Breakdown

Each £55 share in WhatYouWaitingFor will include a £5 donation to Prostate Cancer UK in addition to the donation of 25% of Old Gold Racing and Gerald’s management fees.

Once the syndicate is filled, we will have raised £28,500 for Prostate Cancer UK.

There are no other partners in this horse, so once 3,000 shares are sold, 100% of the horse will be owned by Gerald’s Charity Syndicate members.

Unlike other syndicates, Old Gold Racing does not charge owners VAT. This means that there is no need to reclaim VAT and that a share represents a greater proportion of the racehorse.

At the end of the syndicate term any unspent funds are returned to owners pro-rata. These funds can be withdrawn or used against the cost of renewing or purchasing a share.

Breeding Details

WhatYouWaitingFor is by Axxos and out of Miss Philippa.

His sire, Axxos, was a talented middle-distance performer who won three races between two and four years old, including twice at Group level, and finished runner-up in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris, earning over €250,000 in prize money. At stud, despite limited numbers, he has produced a number of high-quality jumpers such as Callet Mad (rated 148) and the prolific Earlofthecotswolds, a 12-time winner.

His dam, Miss Philippa, was unraced but hails from a strong National Hunt family featuring several Black Type performers, including Valyssa Manterg, Hulysse Royale, and Sadler’sflaure. She has made a bright start to her broodmare career, producing one runner and one winner from one foal to race.

Miss Philippa is by Mahler, a son of the legendary Galileo, who has firmly established himself as a successful National Hunt sire. His progeny include Chris’s Dream and The Real Whacker, as well as being the damsire of the progressive Ask Brewster.
